ELC at F.M. Day
Program Changes at FM Day
We have made an important and difficult decision regarding the future of the Early Learning Center at FM Day. Due to changing facility demands and the budget realities impacted by declining enrollment in Westminster Public Schools (WPS), we have made the difficult decision to close our doors at ELC @ FM Day at the end of the school year. Our last day of operation will be Thursday, May 28, 2026.
What will happen to current students?
WPS will be opening a smaller child care program located in the Early Learning Center at Gregory Hill, with an anticipated start date for summer care options on June 8, 2026 and full programming available as of August 2026. Unfortunately, space will be limited and priority enrollment for this new program will be given to children of WPS staff and families who reside within the Westminster Public Schools (WPS) boundary. While there may be some open enrollment opportunities for families from outside the district, these options will be extremely limited and may only include half-day programming. We will share more details regarding this new program, including full enrollment procedures and capacity, in the coming weeks.
How was this decision made?
This difficult decision was reached after extensive review by the district leadership team, focused on maintaining our primary mission: the education and well-being of all children in the community. We have profoundly valued our time serving your families. For many years, it has been a privilege to be a trusted part of your family's journey, watching your children learn, grow, and thrive. We thank our caring staff for their amazing work and are deeply grateful for the continuous support that has built such a special community at ELC @ F.M. Day.
How can I find new childcare options?
We understand that finding and evaluating options for high-quality childcare, especially for children who are 3 years old and under, can be a time-consuming and and emotionally charged experience. Below are some resources to help guide you through this transition.
The State Universal Preschool (UPK) Portal opened on Tuesday, December 9th.
If you reside outside the Westminster Public Schools boundary and need extended-day child care for a preschool-aged student (age 4 by Aug 2026), we strongly encourage you to register in the UPK portal and begin researching new placements immediately. This is the key opportunity to enroll in next fall’s programs across the state, and utilizing this early access is essential for a successful transition.
Additional Resources:
- Support Resource: We recommend exploring resources like ecpac.org that can provide information about alternative child care options in the local area.
- Online Resource: Colorado Shines serves as a statewide resource that allows families to locate licensed, quality-rated child care centers and providers.
We are committed to making the coming months as smooth as possible for your children. Should you have questions about transitioning your child’s placement, please reach out directly to the WPS Early Childhood Education office (720-542-5093).
