BACKPACK GIVEAWAY AND BREAKFAST SET STUDENTS UP FOR SUCCESS

More than 2,000 students returned to school with brand new backpacks filled with supplies this year thanks to A Precious Child and an amazing volunteer effort from Westminster Public Schools staff. This year’s backpack giveaway on Saturday, August 5 included a pancake breakfast and a chance for families to see the beautiful Westminster High School campus.

In years past, the Back-to-School celebration was held at the nearby Memorial Stadium with hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill. The district moved the start of the event up to 8 a.m. to give the day a breakfast feel and to avoid the August afternoon heat.

The community seemed to approve of the change.

“We couldn’t do this without the support of a Precious Child,” said Superintendent Pam Swanson. “They partner with us year-round to help our families, and like us, they realize the importance of kids coming to school with cool backpacks and supplies. Thanks to them and all our volunteers who make this special day possible.”
